Missteps that will Drive Web-designers Crazy

All set to get on with a new project of designing a business website? Great! But before you jump off with the assignment, it will be wise if you look into the mistakes which you must have unwittingly committed during your past projects. There are few major faults which didn’t even get through your head while designing and eventually caused hindrances. Often such obstacles turn web-designers crazy and make the work environment stressful. Designing is an exciting profession, by disregarding few aspects you are not only messing up with your work but are unsettling the complete workflow. Despite of the efforts and hard work, web-designers tend to drop the ball and later regret about the project getting rejected by the clients. In order to accomplish the web project successfully and without any stress, you need to get rid of the obstacles right from the foundation.

Let’s see, what are the common but unnoticed wrong steps taken by web-designers:

1. Not having a strong plan of action:

A rock solid plan of action is the root of an effective website. Just having a clear goal is not enough; you need to know the way to reach the goal and for that a strong plan of action is very important. Designers fail to understand the necessity and directly embark on the project. Before you start with designing, your developer should present you with the market research, customer requirements, competitive study and other such things which are crucial to know before initiating the project. You and your developer need to read, understand and then start working on the project as per the gathered data.

2. Designing as per you and your boss’s style:

You need to lock this in your mind that you are designing the website for your customers and not for you or your boss, so stop designing as per your personal taste. Of course you need to flaunt your creativity but by keeping customer’s preference in mind. Your main goal is to satisfy your customers. Even if the design doesn’t allure you, it should suit the customer’s taste. Sometimes the outcome as per your customer requirements will not be really pleasing; in such situation you need to tactfully convince your customer and persuade them to go with little alterations suggested by you. Your targeted audience is your clients and not yourself or your BOSS.

3. Poking your nose in your web developer’s work:

Your job is to design and the developer’s job is to develop, so stop interfering in developer’s work as they can certainly perform their job better than you. You can best contribute to project by letting them do their part and you carry on with your part. You can provide feedback or support but no need to perform their work. This will spoil your relationship with your developer. You need to work together as one team. In fact your mediocre suggestion would ruin the development process and nobody else but you will be blamed for the loss.

4. Lack of communication and going with assumptions:

Assumptions are the root cause for failures of web projects and assumptions arise due to lack of communication. Most of the time it happens that you and your developer will not be on same page and both of you will assume something and ultimately it will result in crash. If any new feature is demanded by the client, it should be communicated appropriately with the complete project team. If the designers are aware of new requirement but the developers are ignorant then it may create an obstacle and tear down the process. Hence proper communication is imperative for stress-free designing as well as web development process.

So if you want to save yourself from going crazy then make sure you avoid these blunders and create a hassle-free work environment where the whole team can work harmoniously and execute the project successfully.
